Gender Curiosity

Gender identity can play a huge part in our lives as we’re growing up, and it is common to question your gender identity.

Your physical features do not determine your gender. Babies are given a sex (boy or girl) at birth based on their body parts, but this doesn’t necessarily mean you'll identify with this - and that is perfectly okay.

If you feel comfortable with your birth sex, this is known as cisgender. If you don’t, it’s likely that you fit under the broad category of gender diversity.

We begin expressing our gender at very early ages - usually around 2 or 3 years old - through the way we talk about ourselves and choose to dress.

As we get older and enter our teenage years, it’s super common to experiment with your gender. Finding what works for you and expressing your gender can be an exciting and freeing experience. Just remember, whatever makes you feel the most yourself and confident, is the way you should be living your life.

While it can definitely feel like you’re alone in this, keep in mind that there are lots of young people questioning and exploring their gender identity. Some people find it helpful speaking to a supportive healthcare professional while figuring out their gender identity. The world is becoming more aware and accepting of gender diversity, but it can still be a scary thing to explore if you don’t have someone to help you.

And remember, despite all this talk of exploring your gender identity, you don’t need to label yourself! You do whatever works for you.

Change your perspective and uncover a way forward for you!

Here are some things that can help you with that.
