Do you ever have times where you wonder, “Am I good enough?” Well, you are not alone.
Feeling not enough is challenging, and often hurts. Feeling like you don’t match up to the people around you can be stressful and make you really sad. And if you are feeling like this don’t worry, there is hope.
Below are some resources that will help, but first here are simple things you can do to get back on track.
Firstly, start affirming yourself. In other words, start telling yourself things that you like about yourself – as if you were speaking to your best friend. This might be hard at the start, but just think of anything. Literally, ANYTHING. Practice telling yourself that thing again, and again. Seriously, it works, the science doesn’t lie.
Okay, social media makes it super easy to feel like you are not good enough, I know, we have all been there. But you’ll start to feel better when you stop focusing on others and start focusing on yourself.
In the words of Will Smith, “We spend money that we don't have, on things we don't need, to impress people who don't care.”
So, do what makes you — not other people — happy. Feeling like you’re not enough can lead you to take on friends, hobbies, projects that you think will make you look good, rather than make you happy. But when you do what makes you truly happy you can shake off the weight of judgements and expectations of others
Next, recognise that you have value. Even if you think it is in the smallest way, just acknowledge it. Start small. You don’t have to be the best at everything. Just acknowledge what is important to you, try being the best you can be at whatever it is, and if you fail, don’t let the failure define you.
I hope this helps. Good luck!
