Moving on - Heartbreak

Heartbreak sucks, but unfortunately, it’s an important part of growing and maturing through adolescence. In the moment, it's easy to feel as if all hope is lost and never want to put yourself out there again - however, it's important to remind yourself this feeling won’t last forever. Whether it's a rough break-up, or loss of friendship, feelings of shock and sadness are all part of heartbreak.

Everyone goes through heartbreak and although no one feels heartbreak the same way, here are some resources that might ease the pain.

Give yourself time to feel upset; don’t try and push the memories with that person out of your mind, it's healthier to be thankful for the times you shared together.  Sure, relationships and friendships have their ups and downs, but connection and intimacy make you grow and become stronger as a person, especially in your teen years. Holding in the feelings of hurt and rejection will only mean you feel hurt for longer. It's important to express yourself openly with friends or family in order to move on.

In the age of social media, it's easy to get hung up on every update or new post by your ex. This can make it hard to move on, and though the temptation is strong, blocking or just staying away from that person's social media profile really helps in getting over a relationship.

Accept the fact that this is the end. At first, it can be really hard to accept this, and denial is a natural way of coping. It's important to remember that if you and this person are meant to have a relationship or friendship, you will. There’s always a chance to be in a relationship with them again, but you need to focus on what is best for you right now.

Change your perspective and uncover a way forward for you!

Here are some things that can help you with that.
