HIGHWAY JOURNEY
This is our flagship program that brings young people together from all over Australia. We help young people get inspired by their life. We bring young people across Australia, of similiar ages, together online to explore and
discover what is important to them. We help young people aged 14 to 25 years to develop self-awareness of who they are, what they want to do and where they want to go.
This is done out of school hours in the privacy of their home. A Highway Journey is made up
of four (4) consecutive sessions. It is done once a week for four weeks on the same day at the same time. It
is also led by an amazing accredited Highway Youth Facilitator who will journey with them as a
companion. Having this ongoing support and rapport really helps young people to reflect on what is important to them. At the end of their Highway Journey, through friendship and inner reflection we believe young people will have a greater sense of who they are and what they want to do. Very inspiring!
You can help us spread the word by informing and inviting your young people to join Highway. You can let them know about our website. In addition, please feel free to download our Highway Journey brochure and share it with your young people in your organisation.
MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID
TRAINING STAFF AND PEOPLE WHO WORK WITH YOUTH
Today one in four young people will experience a diagnosable mental illness before they reach the age of 24 years of age. Now more than ever, it is important to be prepared to support young people and help them get the help they need. To do that, we need to be able to recognise the signs of mental distress.
Highway Foundation is accredited by Mental Health First Aid Australia to run the specialised Mental Health First Aid for Youth. We specialise in training people who will be working with young people in schools, sporting groups and youth organisations. Prepare your leaders so they can support the young people in your organisation.
The Mental Health First Aid for Youth Training runs for 2 full days from 9am - 5pm. We usually run it on weekends. We provide all the resources. At the end of the training, you will be sent an online test. On passing the test you will become an Accredited Mental Health First Aider for Youth from Mental Health First Aid Australia.
We can also run a private face-to-face or online training session just for your organisation. Please contact us for details and pricing.

HIGHWAY'S INNOVATIVE SELF AWARENESS TOOLS TO DISCOVER IDENTITY AND MEANING
Highway has two innovative self awareness tools. The Centering and Reflection Compass helps young people become more self aware of their life and what feels right. The Belonging and Becoming Compass is an innovative tool that helps organisations, communities, groups or cohorts become aware of where they are at and where they want to go in terms of their mission and plans for the future.
Being "Centered" means that one is present, able to fully focus, and be completely engaged with the activity in the present moment. It is an active process, where one can set aside life's many distractions. It is the ability to focus despite being pulled by external circumstances, significant events or triggers.
Within each of these key domains, there are individual factors that may impact each of our lives to different extent. The factors within each domains are shown in the figure. The greater the effort, strain or stress of having to deal with each factor then lowers one's ability to be centered.
